Blogroll
A short list of the writers and sites I keep coming back to.
Design and the web
Zach LeathermanZach Leatherman on web performance, font loading, and the craft of personal sites. He created Eleventy — recently renamed Build Awesome — the static site generator this site runs on, and his writing has been quietly shaping how many of us build for years.
Josh ComeauJosh Comeau's warm, deeply interactive tutorials on CSS, React, and animation. The interactive guides — flexbox and grid especially — have become reference material for much of the front-end world, and the site itself is one of the best examples going of what a hand-built personal blog can be.
Elysa HenegarMy sister Elysa's blog — lyrical, scripture-woven reflections on faith, motherhood, and family life, written in a Southern voice. On pause for now, but the archive holds up.
CSS {In Real Life}Michelle Barker's long-running blog on CSS and front-end craft. The CSS work is careful and current — grid, masonry, custom properties, the practical stuff — and her writing on web sustainability, AI ethics, and the environmental cost of what we build gives the site more range than its name suggests.
Pimp My TypeOliver Schöndorfer on typography for UX and product design. Font Friday brings a fresh font recommendation almost every week — over two hundred and counting — and the articles are unusually specific about what type is actually doing on a screen.
Fun and interesting
Cool ToolsKevin Kelly's long-running catalog of tools, broadly defined: books, gadgets, software, ideas, whatever's useful. Reader-submitted positive reviews, one a weekday, since 2003. Reliably interesting after all these years.
Shady CharactersKeith Houston on the deep history of punctuation, typographic marks, and the odd characters most of us never think about. Author of Shady Characters, The Book, and Empire of the Sum — careful, curious writing on why the marks between the letters matter.
